IP Europe thanks Patrick McCutcheon for his support in the European debate over patents and open standards
IP Europe announces the departure of Patrick McCutcheon, who supported the organization in a strategic role for the past two years.
A trade association that represents companies promoting a strong European innovation ecosystem, “IP Europe wishes to thank Patrick for his support in our efforts to highlight the importance of patents to incentivise private investment in R&D and in innovative open standards,” said IP Europe Chair Collette Rawnsley.
“He joined the organisation at a strategic moment for 5G and 6G mobile communication standards and a busy time for those engaged in the IP policy debate,” Rawnsley continued. She noted that McCutcheon’s experience “meant that he was well placed to help IP Europe promote strong intellectual property (IP) protection in Europe.”
“Strong IP protection is vital to create an environment that attracts and incentivises continuous investments in the cutting-edge technologies necessary to ensure Europe’s future competitiveness, strategic autonomy and technological sovereignty,” she said.
McCutcheon said: “Having championed public policies that promote investment in innovation and standards, it was a pleasure to advocate on behalf of an association of companies with a high R&D intensity.”
Rawnsley said, “IP Europe is grateful for Patrick’s contribution to the organisation and we wish him all the very best for his future endeavours.”
“IP Europe remains committed to advocating for policies that support a collaborative European innovation ecosystem and help drive Europe’s digital and green agendas, growth and prosperity,” she said. “Our members are looking forward to the next phase of IP Europe’s development.”
